Do we have a conscientious yet on the spread of the uplink frequencies for
AO-85?

Today (29th) at the ~ 2300 UT pass over me on the coast of NW Oregon I?
could hear two stations WA6DNR (CM87) and WB9AWX (DM04) and it is quite
possible, after listing to the recording it sounded like WB9AWX (~23:02) may
have come back to my call but no idea at that moment what freq I may have
been on (as I was running up and down from 435.165-435.180 at that point)
and at that time the bird would have been close to Max EI for myself and
probably getting closer to LOS for WB.

So, after four tries I am less than certain if I am getting into the bird
and before the 5th trip would very much like some input on what the uplink
freq's seem to be running for folks that are being successful from AOS to
LOS.?

>From what I am reading, I may be handicapped with my HT-60 (Arrow antenna)
but willing to keep trying for awhile as it has been a long wait for this one.

Thanks for all suggestions!
And, by the way, thanks to the FOX team for all their previous and current
hard work.... either way it goes I do appreciate the effort.

Here is the odd question of the month: Has anyone found a way to run the
ancient tracking program InstantTrack on a Win10 machine? Win10 gives a
bunch of run compatibility and screen options all the way back to Win95;
none work. The Troubleshooter says it should run on XP. Same old "can't run
on this PC" response. Before I am advised to get out of the stoneage, I do
run SatPc32, HRD and Orbitron. Just that IT has some stuff that I like. And,
on XP, it is fast.

Thanks!

Ed,

?What you're seeing is probably related to InstantTrack
predating Windows 95, being a program that goes back to
the MS-DOS days. You may want to install something
like DOSBOX on your Windows 10 PC, and run IT under
DOSBOX. This may give the program the environment it
expects to see, instead of the more modern Windows 10
operating system that doesn't have support to run the
oldest DOS-style programs anymore. This may be especially
true for the newer PCs with 64-bit CPUs, something that
was only a dream in the DOS days. I think I still have
IT on my Win7 laptop at home, and I may try this on one
of my Win10 tablets this
weekend. Another item for the
radio to-do list... :-)?
? ?

Ed,

Take a look at DosBox, a program to allow old DOS programs to run on newer
version of Windows:

http://www.dosbox.com/

I have used it on WIN7 and WIN8 to run ITrack in full screen mode, not WIN10
which I don't have yet,
but it would be worth a try. If you do, let us know. Like you, I enjoy
getting ITrack out, mostly
for nostalgia.

However, XW-2F's CW beacon was strong and I made contact with several

I have run InstantTrack with DOSBox on Windows 10. It works great.

IT is great for visualizing how passes shift over time in satellites
with non-sun synchronous orbits (or even to see the gradual drift of
those in sun-synchronous orbits).

Ed,

VMware player allows you to install an older version on a windows 10
machine. I use it with windows xp to run programs that are no longer
compatible with newer versions of windows.

Glad to see there are still a few IT die hards out here.

Can't help you on the OS, but I'm just chiming in to say IT
is the only tracking program I use. Might try out PcSat32
down the road, but I haven't heard if that works with SASI
tracker rotor controller.

I seem to get the best quality echo audio if I transmit on 435170 (at
the satellite).
The downlink doesn't seem to make much difference either for the audio
or the telemetry decode but I use 145978 (at the satellite).
I have not had a QSO but there are no others in Hawaii active now so I
have only a short window to the western US.

An International Space Station school contact has been planned with
participants at Eleanor Palmer School, London, United Kingdom on 04 Nov. The
event is scheduled to begin at approximately 09:51 UTC. It is recommended
that you start listening approximately 10 minutes before this time. The
duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The
contact will be a telebridge between NA1SS and VK6MJ. The contact should be
audible over portions of Australia and adjacent areas. Interested
participants are invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The
contact is expected to be conducted in English.

Eleanor Palmer Primary School, a non-selective community school, is located
in central London in the United Kingdom. London is an exciting and dynamic
capital city and its schools are the best in the country, attributed to the
social and ethnic diversity, excellent local leadership and the quality of
teaching.

Eleanor Palmer is a relatively small school of around 220 pupils with single
classes of 30 children per year. Our youngest pupils are 3 years old and our
oldest 11 years old. Due to our central London location we are a highly
diverse and inclusive school with staff and children from many different
backgrounds.

Our pupils achieve highly as judged by national benchmarks. One of our core
aims as a school is to inspire in all pupils a love of learning and the
desire to continue to learn and we therefore seek to provide a rich and
broad curriculum opening minds and creating opportunities. We hope that our
contact with the ISS will inspire pupils to go on to learn more about space
through the study of science, technology, engineering and math.

Participants will ask as many of the following questions as time allows:

1. What have you seen that is more beautiful than earth?

2. Who or what inspired you to choose this job?

3. Does being in space make you feel differently about earth?

4. What can you learn from the ISS that you cannot learn on earth?

5. Will normal people who are not astronauts be able to visit space in the

    ISS one day?

6. How do you sleep?

7. Is it quiet up there in the ISS?

8. When you get back to earth, do you have to re-train your muscles?

9. Can you call home?

10. Do you all have to be scientists?

11. What do you think is the most important

things children should know about space?

12. What time zone do you use?

13. Do you have plants on the ISS?

14. What has been your favourite experiment?

15. How does your brain respond to micro gravity?

16. How do you wash your clothes?

17. If you cry in space, with laughter, what happens to your tears?

18. What do you want to do when you come back to earth?

19. How do you get enough oxygen?

20. Is it more scary taking off from earth or returning to earth?

21. What is your energy source on the ISS?

22. What does it feel like to be in space?

23. Is it always dark in space?

Next planned event(s):

   1. Dragonskolan, Ume?, Sweden, telebridge via VK6MJ

The ISS callsign is presently scheduled to be NA1SS

The scheduled astronaut is Kjell Lindgren KO5MOS

Contact is a go for: Thu Nov. 5, 2015, 10:35 UTC

ARISS is an international educational outreach program partnering the
volunteer support and leadership from AMSAT and IARU societies around the
world with the ISS space agencies partners: NASA, Russian Space Agency, ESA,
CNES, JAXA, and CSA.

ARISS offers an opportunity for students to experience the excitement of
Amateur Radio by talking directly with crewmembers on-board the
International Space Station. Teachers, parents and communities see, first
hand, how Amateur Radio and crewmembers on ISS can energize youngsters'
interest in science, technology, and learning. Further information on the

Thanks for the report, Tom.
You are in a good position to make that observation, with no others
vying for the uplink or the AFC. Unfortunately for you! ;-)

Half a dozen responses to what I thought was an arcane question... the
general consensus on how to run InstantTrack on WIN10 is through DOSbox. So,
over about 10 minutes, I downloaded and installed DOSbox, put InstantTrack
in it and fired it up. Works perfectly. Even runs the map screens. Cool!

Thanks to all!

IT on my Win7 laptop at home, and I may try this on one
of my Win10 tablets this
weekend. Another item for the
radio to-do list... :-)?
? ?

The TLM was making some strange noises and the "eye" was distorted and I
received no packets from AO-85

I could hear the transponder fine, but switching between the transponder
audio and the TLM shows the difference.

I have video of this if any of the team are interested.

Was this planned or is it something I may have done inadvertently?

it was switched to high speed mode, if you switched over the eye would
have come back and you would have gotten packets
