Perfect, since that's usually the only time I have free time to operate

I have an old ICOM IC-706 for the uplink, a Yaesu FT-857D for the
downlink, and a laptop controlling both via CAT. I'm currently only
manually tracking with an Arrow but I figure that will be enough for a
start.

Thanks for the tips, will report back when I've made an attempt. 73

It looks to me like you didn't get a clean decode of a REJ (reject)
packet. Usually this is because of duplicate or out of sequence packet
being sent.

I've been using SatPC32 for several years, and have not seen this problem
until recently. I'm wondering if anyone else has? After running for
several hours or maybe a day or 2, SatPC32 just stops. It is marked "not
responding" and it does not refresh the screen when it is exposed. I can
not see that it is doing anything. The companion rotor control program
appears to be running, but of course when I kill SatPC32 with CTL/ALT/DEL
it keeps running, so I also have to kill it manually.

First, I'm running this all on a PC with a 4-core Intel I5 processor at
3.something GHz, so power should not be a problem. The unusual thing
(slightly) is that the system is "headless". It has a graphics processor,
but there is no monitor on it. I use Remote Desktop to access it. That
should not make any difference but...

On this PC, I am running SatPC32 which is driving an AMSAT rotor controller
via a USB serial port, a TS2000 (often not turned on) via a built in serial
port, and SDR# via DDE. FoxTelem is running and listening to SDR# via
virtual audio cable. Sometimes the AO73 app is also running, but not
always.

If anyone has suggestions as to how to debug this (what info to collect and
send, other stuff to try, etc) I'd be happy to give it a try.

Thanks and 73,

Burns Fisher W2BFJ

It?s not exactly LEO orbit, but you can track the annual running of the A/N
game football from Annapolis to Phily starting at noon.

http://aprs.fi/usna*

USNA-1 will always be with the ball while -2,-3,-4 will be shuttling
runners.

The 8W Byonics MicrotrackTT4?s are set to use Proportional-Pathing so that
close in, (simplex/direct) they are updated at a known 1 minute rate making
rendezvous practical, while the first digi hop is only once every 2
minutes. And then there is only a regional 2 hop packet once every 4
minutes. This keeps the 144.39 MHz channel loading down an order of
magnitude while still providing close in 1 minute special event tracking
quality.

And, knowing the rate is always one minute direct, 2 minutes via one digi
and 4 minutes regional, makes it easy to know when packets are missing and
how best to anticipate the nice DeadReckoning header as displayed on APRS.FI
.

ALL,

To get the downlinks from all the APRS satellites (except the ISS) use:
http://pcsat.findu.com For ISS use http://ariss.net

Do not use the "pcsat.aprs.org" which does not show user packets. I've
been linking to the wrong one for months or years and couldn't understand
why I was not seeing user digipeated packets half the time. Reason is
complicated, but FINDU has two servers and so you had a 50/50 chance of
getting the right page.

I've got to change DOZENS of web pages to replace the pcsat.aprs.org links
with pcsat.findu.com links.

If I remember correctly dont you not have to send PSK-31 tones for it to
activate?

Yes, you need to send a PSK31 signal to turn on the NO-84 70cm downlink.
The standard PSK31 idle signal should work, but an unmodulated carrier
won't. There is a detector circuit that looks for a 31.25 HZ spectral
component in the baseband uplink spectrum and that enables the transmitter:

http://www.urel.feec.vutbr.cz/esl/files/Projects/PSAT/P%20sat%20transponder%20
WEB%20spec02.htm

I guess the design assumption is that your typical PSK31 message has enough
31Hz AM energy to trigger the detector, as two phase transitions (sequence
00 in Differential BPSK) is the "stop bit" between symbols.
