Hi!

I will make a quick drive to grid DM34we tomorrow (Saturday, 19
December) morning for a few hours of working different satellite
passes. I plan on operating from a freeway rest area about 50
miles/80km north of Phoenix, starting around 1500 to 1600 UTC
into the mid-afternoon. If the ISS radios are back on, I may
try to work stations through the ISS packet/APRS digipeater on
145.825 MHz during a couple of passes around midday.

As with my other trips, I will post updates via my @xxxxxx
Twitter feed. This is also visible at http://twitter.com/WD9EWK
in a web browser, even if you do not use Twitter. I will use
APRS to show my location while on the road, squawking as
WD9EWK-9. This should be visible online at (among other places)
http://aprs.fi/WD9EWK-9

After this quick day-trip, I will upload my log to Logbook of
the World. If you'd like a QSL card to confirm a contact with
WD9EWK at DM34, please e-mail me directly with the QSO details.

Rick,

Yes, the Sunset Point Rest Area, I-17 exit 252. The south end
of the rest area is the highest point there, and I usually
try to park at that end of the parking lot when working the
satellites. Other than the mountains immediately to the west
of the rest area, it is a really good spot for the other
directions. It should also be reachable tomorrow morning
without worrying about the need for chains or snow tires,
even though there may be some ice on the roadway in the
morning.

  Dear Ray,
The latest Keps are already out there in Celestrak as objects 2015-077A
through object 077F. At the moment all the six satellites are almost close
to each other. Athenoxat-1 was the last object to have been ejected from
PSLV C-29.

satellites.

Launch on 16.12.2015. 12:30 UTC from Satish Dhawan Space Centre [SDSC],
Shriharikota

So far, 51 satellites from 20 countries have been successfully launched by
PSLV.

Athenoxat-1 seperation from PSLV at 12:51:02 UTC

Athenoxat-1 would starting sending CW message 30 minutes after separation.

CW message will be ?ATX1? on 437.485 MHz every 1 minute and also with
an indication of battery voltage.

Kevin KF7MYK has posted his disdain for unattended beacon stations via
ARISS and NO-44 several times in the past. I agree with him that these
stations who beacon every 5,10, and 15 minutes are really LAME. They
send out beacons 24x7 on 145.825 MHz with a path of ARISS and are never
at the keyboard. It's inconsiderate and against good operating
practice. Stations who want to help out the network and act as IGATEs
don't need to camp out and beacon all day on 145.825 MHz.

Does anyone have a source of current Keplerian elements (TLEs) for
Athanoxat-1? I would like to include them in the next AMSAT KEP
distribution. TNX.

thanks Paulo, probably the CW decoding is not complete, voltage should be in
the range of 8V as the satellite cannot work at 3V and we confirmed voltages
about 8.2V and 8.3V.

I have made QSOs through the ISS digipeater. More often than not I use the
digipeater to simply send my coordinates to test my equipment and make sure
I'm tracking and getting through. It is a bit fun to see my transmission on
ARISS.net. It's even more fun when I catch my own digipeat.

Usin the digipeater is a great way for beginners to build skills. It's not
used often but there is an official ARISS activity where schools can use
the digipeater by send a couple lines of code to operate a remote robot
some distance from their school. ARISS has also promoted and encouraged its
use for schools who are preparing for an ARISS contact to send messages to
other schools who are doing the same, so they get a first hand
demonstration of space communication.

Perfect.

As a complete neophyte at SSB transponder operation this will give me a
great opportunity, over my holiday break, to work all
the bugs out of the mobile station I just built. Icom IC-706 (first
generation, 1996 vintage! Yipe!) up, Yaesu FT857D down,
Alaskan Arrow on a tripod with ball mount and separate feeds, old laptop
running Ubuntu and SATPC32 on Wine for tracking.
Whenever the CAT cable for this Icom arrives, then I'll have computer
control of tuning for both rigs.

I think this operator should commit himself to achieving the goal, before
this month is out, of landing a signal on AO-73 and
returning it safely to the Earth.
