i noticed on the "sat passes page" that na 15, 17, 18, and 19 transmit apt.
are these birds still active? i ask because i never see any tracking info
on that page (which i think is very helpful, by the way - thanks). also are
there any other "receive only" wx satellites/frequencies that may be of
interest to an old weather buff, like me? (even if they just transmit wefax)
i'm open to any suggestions as per satellites and their frequencies. you
can answer my via my private email, if you prefer, or openly - if you figure
the amsat group is even interested. thanks in advance and MERRY CHRISTMAS to

Matthias,

Thank you for the information. You have a very nice website!

Where can I find the downlink frequencies for satellites 15, 18, and 19?

Also, what software is used to decode the pictures?

Thank you!

Steve,

The following website should have freqs and statuses
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/phqfh1/status.htm

For decoding the images APT use WXTOIMG http://www.wxtoimg.com/

This page documents a fellow's WX sat project from start to finish ...

Hope it helps! I plan to try it out after I help my daughter move to Salt

Hi Steve,

as JoAnne and Peter already responded here is the information you will find
on my website:

If you go this page http://www.dd1us.de/amateur%20radio.html and scroll to
the bottom you will find the links to the various satellites.

I am using the weatherman kit and WxtoImg.

Here is a status page for the NOAA satellites which get regularly updated:

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/phqfh1/status.htm

Kind regards

Matthias

It's a fun project. There are many ways to do it but you don't have to over
complicate it. At first. If you have a 2M antenna (directional or omni) they
are usually broadband enough (and the sats are strong enough) to receive 137
as is. For the receiver, you really need ~40 kHz bandwidth to do no-tune. In
the 1990's, it was common to use RS scanners with the single IF filter
replaced with a .1 uF cap. Works fine. I still use one. It's not as good as
the Icom R7000 with frequency tracking from HRD but it is hassle free. The
RTL SDR website and a Yahoo SIG Have all kinds of info on using the $15
RTL820 SDR as a receiver. Antennas: there are numerous designs for
quadrifilar helix omnis. I've had one on the pole with a direct connected
preamp for at least 15 years. Still works. But start simple.

I don't lose a lot of sleep over this, since the line of zero-degree
declination pretty much runs through my back yard. But considering that the
3 db beamwidth of an M2 436CP16 or similar antenna is at least 40 degrees
(and even wider at 2 meters), the required level of precision is not really
that great. Point it truish northish and be done with it. If you're working
at microwaves, you'll need to do some work. But not so much for LEOs.

Hi Guys,

First of all, wishing all Amsat followers a Happy Christmas !

My quick question....

So I'm in the final stages of setting up my G5500 rotator & antennas, to
get the whole thing
Aligned I want to set a reference to North. I'm thinking this should be to
True North not magnetic North. Can you confirm

Regards

If you are on Facebook, join the "NOAA Weather Fax" group.

If you are considering building a Quadifilar Helical antenna, I recommend
this site for it's applet that will calculate the dimensions for you:

wtx sats i noticed on the "sat passes page" that na 15, 17, 18, and 19
transmit apt. are these birds still active? i ask because i never see any
tracking info on that page (which i think is very helpful, by the way -
thanks). also are there any other "receive only" wx satellites/frequencies
that may be of interest to an old weather buff, like me? (even if they just
transmit wefax) i'm open to any suggestions as per satellites and their
frequencies. you can answer my via my private email, if you prefer, or
openly - if you figure the amsat group is even interested. thanks in ad

Hi All

A while back I asked about potentiometer cleaner, deoxit
was recommended. I see they have have a number of series
for cleaners and lubricates.

Which series would I want for scratchy potentiometers and
switch contacts? ie. D G F or X series?

Tnx,
KB7ADL
