What's the status of AO-51? I've read that it's dead and I've also read
that people are still using it.

AO-51 remains non-operational. We still try to restart her occasionally, in
case a cell opens, but that isn't likely. Here's the original announcement
from 2+ years ago: http://amsat.org/pipermail/ans/2011/000571.html

The good news is at least two Fox-1 sats will launch next year, both
carrying Mode B FM repeaters, as well as at least one camera and several
university experiments. There are several ways to donate to the program at
http://www.amsat.org/

According to the article "The SUWS WebSDR is located at Farnham not
far from London, 51.3 N
1.15 W" I believe the grid square is IO91.

I am pleased to announce that I will be sponsoring a new award to promote
activity on AO-73 (FUNcube-1). The requirements for this award are simple:

1. Work 73 unique stations on AO-73.
2. Contacts must be made on or after September 1, 2014.
3. There are no geographic restrictions on your operating location.

There will be no cost for this award (donations to AMSAT-UK and AMSAT-NA's
Fox program are encouraged though). No QSLs are required. When you complete
the requirements, email your log extract including the callsign of each
station worked, UTC, and date to n8hm@xxxx.xxx as well as the address where
you'd like the award certificate sent.

Enjoy AO-73's transponder!

Paul Stoetzer, N8HM

I am not sure WHY ... but just a small percentage of those who actually DID
communicate
with astronaut Wiseman last Field Day weekend have requested QSL cards from
their efforts!

It is not hard to get one of these coveted cards. Just submit your request
(QSL card, or typed
report) and include ...

- the date
- the time in UTC
- frequency and mode (voice, packet, or SSTV)

Include a large self-addressed, stamped return envelope with sufficient
postage. For US contacts, submit your request to ...

ARRL HEADQUARTERS
ARISS QSL
225 Main Street
Newington CT 06111-1494

So exactly how do you know what percentage of people requested QSL cards
and why would you care?

Just curious, so don't feel like this is a Clint assault.

Several have been concerned because John's QRZ entry says he no longer QSLs.

I mentioned that to him in an email this evening and he assures me that he
will QSL. He added this to his QRZ entry this
evening and asked me to pass the info along:

Notice: I will now only QSL on Satellite contacts. These contacts are the
ones I make while traveling and visiting various
rare Grid Squares, to help other ops obtain the needed various Grid Squares
in their VUCC awards. SASE would be greatly
appreciated, but not a requirement. Be advised, that return card will be
after I arrive back at home base in Visalia, Ca..
thank you for your help. I still do not QSL other contacts.

Hope that clears things up.

I have been hearing a CW signal followed by a packet signal on 145.825 for
the past couple of days. Did not try decoding as I was mobile in my car.
Google search also shows a video on youtube ? http://youtu.be/mS-2Y5R6Sak?

BTW, there was no ISS pass over Bangalore during the time I heard the
signal. Does anyone know which satellite this could be.

A voice contact with an orbiting astronaut is an extraordinary event. And I
have run into a few operators who had
no idea that they could apply for and receive a QSL card for their efforts.

How do I know any numbers? I made a phone call to the ARRL manager who has
the numbers. Like I always do,
I use the best-available information ...

So - What, exactly, is the problem posting the procedure to obtain a QSL
card from an ISS contact?

Clint posts an informative, upbeat, factually correct, on-topic post. And
those without as good as Rolodex as I
possess can't stand it.

And so it goes ...

As always, you can't just answer the question in a direct manner and put
the 'Clint twist' on it.

Why would you even care what the percentage is? Was it a life changing
event once you got the numbers?

I don't recall saying there was a problem with posting the QSL procedure.
Once again the 'Clint twist'

And in closing you finish it up like a true Narcissist!
