**Call for Proposals
Proposal Window September 1 ? November 1, 2016

The Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) Program is
seeking formal and informal education institutions and organizations, indiv
idually or working together, to host an Amateur Radio contact with a crew
member on board the ISS. ARISS anticipates that the contact would be held
between July 1, 2017 and December 31, 2017. Crew scheduling and ISS orbits
will
determine the exact contact dates. To maximize these radio contact
opportunities, ARISS is looking for organizations that will draw large
numbers of
participants and integrate the contact into a well-developed education
plan.

The deadline to submit a proposal is November 1, 2016. Proposal
information and documents can be found at

Hello Tom,
All the links to the websites I already had posted in my first message on
amsat-bb.
For you I have posted these here again but now I added the PI6ATV website
because I think the
23cm ATV transmittor video stream will be shown on that website.

73s Cor PD0RKC

I expect live video from the balloon camera on this website:
http://www.pi6atv.com/ (probably the live stream will be switched on short
for the event.

The official balloon fox hunt website and social media websites:
https://www.ballonvossenjacht.nl (you can choose the English language from
the menu). http://www.facebook.com/ballonvossenjacht
https://twitter.com/ballonvosjacht (often with quick update news messages!).

73 to ALL,

I am preparing to start the assembly of my "low budget" station and have a
couple of question, please.

My first step will employ an azmuthal only inexpensive rotor (RCA VH22F) and
a terrestrial use linear dual band antenna (Jetstream JTBM270). The
antenna has 3 elements for 2m and 5 for 70cm. I plan to offset the
elevation of the antenna 20-30 degrees in a fixed position, rotatable of
course. My radio at this time is an IC-2730 dual band which can be used for
the FM birds; I am told.

Having described my "phase one plans", my first question is regarding rotor
control. Does anyone know of a rotor control for a three wire inexpensive
rotator?

Regarding the linear antenna, what would the best mounting angle be for
polarization. Yes, I realize that it would not be optimal mounted vertical
or horizontal. I assume that a compromise angle might help.

Let me explain that portable handheld operation is not feasible dues to my
age and living circumstances. A fixed station is my only option. However,
that can be improved if necessary and financially feasible.

Thanks to each and all.

73,

Jerry AB5R

Hi Jerry.

I have a setup very similar to what you describe and also wanted to be
low-budget.

I can't imagine being more pleased with the solution that is spelled out at
the following link:

http://k3rrr.com/cheap-computer-controlled-tv-rotor-for-amsat-satellites-and-i
ncludes-free-satellite-tracking-with-pstrotator-and-the-usb-uirt/

... as long as you have a rotator with an IR remote control, the USB IR
device mentioned in the above article works perfectly.

Hope you have as much success & enjoyment with your setup as I do with
mine.

If your rotator does not have any proper position feedback you may be
able to add a potentiometer inside it.

See here for info:
http://www.dougbraun.com/rotor_mod.html

You then can build a computer interface to control it based on the feedback.

However for now I would recommend just manually adjusting the rotator.
If the beam width of the antenna is wide then pointing will not be too
critical, and when the satellite is overhead the signal is much
stronger.

In the real world you may not need a computer interface, but you will
need some sort of tracking software to tell you which way to point and
which satellite is passing over. SATPC32 is recommended for its
advanced features, but Orbitron is better for beginners.

For those of you that are friends of AMSAT, do not forget when you place
an order for something place your order at smile.amazon.com and select
AMSAT as your preferred charity. By doing so, Amazon will donate a small
percentage of the purchase price to AMSAT. There is no additional cost
to you, only a benefit to AMSAT.

You can use the amazon.com website as you normally do. However, when it
is time to pay for things in your cart, that is when you should go to
smile.amazon.com. Your cart will appear there just as it did at the
amazon.com site. You do not have to find the items you would like to
purchase again, just remember to pay for them over on the
smile.amazon.com site.

Hi All,

I received my USB-to-FT-817 interface cable this week, and just finished
setting up the 817 in SatPC32. It is controlling transmit frequency on
the FT-817 and receive frequency on HDSDR just fine. The current Radio
Setup has HDSDR as Radio 1 and FT-817 and Radio 2.

Then I read that the CAT Delay is supposed to be set to 110 for an
FT-817. However, there is no such setting for Radio 2, only Radio 1.
CAT Delay for HDSDR is currently set to 20.

Everything seems to be working OK so I am wondering whether I should
switch the radios in SatPC32 or leave well enough alone.

Any thoughts?

As always, many thanks for any assistance.

73,

Ken Alexander
