Andrew,

The ARISS outreach is an inspirational and educational outreach to schools
and other educational institutions that is of high interest to many of our
members. It not only has a proven track record of stimulating interest in
Science. Technology, Engineering, and Math; it also exposes many people to
the capabilities and fun of amateur radio. It is one of AMSAT's, ARRL's and
NASA's premier outreach/inspirational programs. Many volunteers and
volunteer hours go into making each contact.

Whereas a streaming of a telebridge contact may not float everyone's
interests it is of significant interest to so many amateur radio and space
enthusiasts to warrant being announced through all of our PR outlets.

Thanks to Matthew, K4FEM, for pointing out to me that he didn't show a
confirmation for our FN52 QSO on October 6, 2016 I was able to discover
that I hadn't uploaded those contacts.  I have now uploaded 12 more from
the time frame of 0213 to 0225 UTC.

Also, thanks to Clayton, K5PFG, for noticing that I missed uploading our
QSO of 10/02/16 when I was in FN61 because I had accidently hit the off
button on my recorder.  I just uploaded that too.

If I missed anything else please let me know.

stations were to increase its power beyond that level, then to maintain
the downlink limit, the other stations get their share of the downlink

satellite is running dangerously low on power is when the downlink
starts to sound watery ("FM-ing", they call it).  More uplink power in
this situation will only make things worse.

FSIQ 7 Spectrum / Signal analyzer.  Mine has and intermittent fault where
the LO goes out of lock.  I haven't been able to find a repair / service
manual on the net but maybe I haven't looked it the right place.


Any help or guidance gratefully accepted !

The Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS)  Program is
seeking formal and informal education institutions and organizations,
individually or working together, to host an Amateur Radio contact with a crew
member on board the ISS.  ARISS anticipates that the contact would be held
between July 1, 2017 and December 31, 2017. Crew scheduling and ISS orbits
will
 determine the exact contact dates. To maximize these radio contact
opportunities, ARISS is looking for organizations that will draw large

plan.

When I got home last night I noticed an issue with azimuth control with my
G-5500. When the control box is powered up the azimuth display goes to max
scale. And the antenna turned all the way to the stop around 450 degrees.
The elevation control is functioning normally. I of course removing the
connection to the LVBT and tested the box and rotor in standalone mode. I
did a quick check of the wiring out to the rotor and removed the plug all
wiring appears to be ok. Anyone have any ideas on what is causing this
problem? I'm leaving for my winter home tomorrow and if it turns out to be
the control box I will bring it with me to fix otherwise it will have wait
till I get back here for the Christmas holiday. If it's the rotor I will
then have some time to take it down and work on..

A simple ? wave vertical wire whip in the center of a car roof might make a
good APRS Inmarsat

A ? wave monopole should have over 7 dBi gain above about 30 degrees which
is where the Inmarsat satellite is.  The patch antenna made by the Outernet
Folks could be 9 dBi and also has the advantage of circular polarization
but is critical to build unless one purchases their kit.  But it would be
useful to see if signals were possible from just the 6.0? whip?



And for people in the USA where the satellite is above 45 degrees, then
maybe a 5/4 antenna might pickup another dB or so and still have the
satellite in the main beam.  Be nice to do an EZNEC model..

designed to bring content to remote areas all over the globe.  They have
six geostationary birds covering the entire globe EVERYWHERE.  All you need
is a small 18? (or 36? in some very remote areas) to receive content via
your own home-made receiver based on a TV dongle and Rasberry Pi.



Is there anyone on AMSAT-bb that is already receiving this content?  We?d
like to hear about how easy it is to set up a receiver.
