I agree. I guess I can remember to add a date when I manually edit it
down to under 6K as requested by the Outernet Folks.

And the other NEAT application of an OUternet WiFi hotspot at ham events,
such as hamfests, or Public Service events or scouting events or anything
where Ham Radio is helping to provide communications is that this Outernet
WiFi hot spot not only serves all the Outernet (L-Band delivered) files to
everyone in the local WiFi area, but also the local SYSOP can upload his
own files in real time to the server.

Imagine if he maintains the latest Agenda, Schedule, Plans, Reports, Pass
times, Lost-N-found, and any other important real-time files of interest
to anyone in the area with a smart phone or tablet!

Remember, this Outerlink Hotspot and Geostationary satellite feed is just
a stand-alone cigarbox size piece of hardware powered by a small battery.
What could be easier and have so much potential...

So cool to see this type of info delivered via geosynchronous satellite!

It might be useful to start the body of each file with the date of

Looks great!

The Outernet L-band feed is now carrying a condensed version of the AMSAT
and ARISS weekly news files. (Global Geosat coverage except for Northern
Alaska)...

Receivers are simple: http://aprs.org/outnet.html

For ARISS, I manually added a 2 char grid square to each school listed in
the school schedule and am asking the outernet folks to parse out that
location info and plot a 1200 km footprint on their weather globe showing
where people can tune in the ARISS contacts. Then their RTL-SDR dongle
could then actually be retuned to hear the contact. Just an idea...

Call for Proposals
Proposal Window September 1 ? November 1, 2016

The Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) Program is
seeking formal and informal education institutions and organizations,
individually or working together, to host an Amateur Radio contact with a crew
member on board the ISS. ARISS anticipates that the contact would be held
between July 1, 2017 and December 31, 2017. Crew scheduling and ISS orbits
will
determine the exact contact dates. To maximize these radio contact
opportunities, ARISS is looking for organizations that will draw large
numbers of
participants and integrate the contact into a well-developed education
plan.

The deadline to submit a proposal is November 1, 2016. Proposal
information and documents can be found at

Hi,

I am thinking along the lines of K.I.S.S - a simple "bent pipe" linear
transponder, with as little to go wrong as possible (the bird will be in
GTO for a very long time). Power and link budget permitting (eg a 5 GHz
/ 10 GHz machine), a wideband transponder would permit ranging
experiments, high speed data and video modes in addition to CW & SSB...

Can the attitude of a 1U cubesat in GTO be passively stabilised (gravity
gradient?) to keep the antennae pointing towards nadir?

Is a microprocessor (or any digital logic) strictly required? simply
having the transponder run whenever the arming pin is out (pulled by
ejection from the cubesat canister) and the DC volts are high enough,
would eliminate the need for a rad-hard processor. As far as I am aware,
the RF circuits in a "rock locked" (no PLL) linear transponder are not
as prone to SEU induced latchup as digital circuitry.

"Is there a reason why S band is not being considered. It was good on AO-40
(sobsob). Probably because of local QRM etc"
Yes Bob, unfortunately high levels of WiFi etc interference make 2400 MHz
unusable in Urban areas, it's why the ISS HamTV transmitter has to operate
on 2395 MHz outside the Amateur-Satellite Service allocation.
The power budget would be the determining factor as to which payload could
be flown. For a standard 1U CubeSat without the complexity and risk of
fold-out solar panels or fold-out antennas you are probably looking at about
400 mW RF output to an omni-directional antenna. This might suggest that in
addition to a telemetry beacon you might support a 25 kHz bandwidth 435 to
145 MHz linear transponder.

A 1260/435 MHz transponder would be an alternative but would require
significantly higher gain ground station antennas.

While I can't speak to the ARISS meeting / NASA tour schedules, the
full AMSAT Symposium agenda will be posted on the website this weekend
and distributed in this weekend's ANS.

Thank you,
