Hello everyone,

we have noticed, during EU passes, that UKUBE-1 starts trasmitting noise
every 2-3 minutes. Looks like a spurious signal saturating and covering
about half of the passband.

Any idea ?

I have observed the same behavior on passes over South America. The
transponder passband singal is as strong as the FunCube BPSK beacon.

The cause is the primary transceiver onboard the satellite transmitting
it's beacon signal and overloading the receiver on the FUNcube-2
transponder.

The satellite's primary beacon causes many signals to disappear on the
transponder when it is active. If you adjust your power, you can
sometimes overcome it. :-) When the primary satellite beacon stops, the
transponder will resume normal performance.

It is fun to play a game and see when it catches you. Sometimes you get
caught in the middle of QSO or calling CQ.

I enjoy working UKube-1 because it is very strong. It is getting a fair
amount of users over the USA.

SSTV is being tx'd from the ISS on 145.800, PD180 FM. It's part of the
Moscow Aviation Institute's 75 celebrations and shows a group seated photo
with caption. My picture is marred by noise as I really should demolish my
neighbour's house to the East, hi. My next pass is at 1659 utc from the
south west but I am not sure that east coast usa will hear it.

I have moved to a new house and am now in EM20. Fifty miles may not seem
like far until you have to move everything you own. Now, back to business.

Ukube 1 is a wicked good bird with a very sensitive receiver that allows
you to maintain a QSO with a watt or less ,and has a very good
transmitter.I can certainly put up with the thing desensing it's own
receiver for a few Seconds every few minutes.Sure appreciate having another
great satellite !

Oops... under the AMSAT Communications Achievement Award it should be
K8YSE/7 for John Paypay and on the AMSAT Sexagesimal Award was K8YSE/7
again and on the South Africa Award as well. I might as well be
consistent. Was not even close on fat fingering the keyboard. It was all
correct in my records, I just cannot type in emails.

On Saturday, 10 December, I plan to activate grid DL98 from/near Eagle Pass,
TX.

Barring traffic or road work delays, I should arrive in time for the AO-73
pass that rises at 1523Z.

Next pass will be AO-85 at 1623Z followed by FO-29 at 1804Z.

All QSOs will be uploaded to LoTW. Hard copy QSLs by email request.
