Not heard from DM43 at 3128it, it was a pretty low pass.

There is a good one late tonight...I'll give that a go.

It already stopped for today. There is a schedule. Note it stopped before
it was scheduled to stop today. It's not always on target (usually isn't)

"ISS SSTV may be active on 145.800 MHz FM on December 8-9.

Seeing activities for MAI-75 on Dec 8 (12:35-1800) and Dec 9 (12:40-17:40)
UTC. Times correspond to orbits over Moscow."

I am a child of the 80s, was born in 81 and I use to watch all of the
launches I could on TV. I was in south Florida and I remember staring
up at the sky hoping to catch any glimpse of a launch. Mom worked
days and nights and we didn't travel much at all, so it was near
impossible for us to drive up and watch a launch. Back then, you use
to be able to send a snail-mail letter to nasa and request the STS-*
launch photos (and others). I did this for everyone that I could and
started requesting some of the older ones to fill up my notebook.
This was a huge deal for me back then and it took a lot of work and
time to do, it cost me all of my allowance at the time because of all
the envelopes and stamps. Once you received the photos, you could
send them back to different addresses to request a signature of a
given astronaut in the picture. This was a lot more work, you had to
figure out which place to send the photo to for a given astronaut,
hope they were there to sign it, wait... wait...... wait... and one
day voila, a manila envelope would appear in the mail. I remember,
there was nothing more exciting than getting a NASA envelope in the
mail, you have no clue, this was the ultimate excitement! We all use
to gather around and see who it was from, I use to idolize these
astronauts...

And then one day, I received a letter from John Glenn, indicating that
he would not sign a photo unless I sent him a check. I will Never
forget this day. I showed this to my family and they could not
believe it. I think my mom even called or wrote a letter to NASA and
complained about it but I may be wrong (going to call and ask her
about it tonight). Of the dozens of astronaut clips and photos that I
have, he was the only astronaut that demanded a check for his
autograph and it left a really bad scar on me. Maybe it's silly but I
really felt betrayed as a kid.

Oh well, Bygons.

Ted,

I know many people on the BB in-person and I have no reason on earth
to lie or misrepresent events about anyone. Especially a
world-renowned individual, for goodness sake. You can doubt all you
want but this is the truth and it was not just me that this happened
to, this happened to others that we knew, my sister included!

I learned many, many years later, from a retired NASA veteran that
this was probably because they had issues with collectors sending in
sets of pictures, which were very likely being sent in and signed for
the sole purpose of being sold in the future. I do not know why mine
was treated this way, mine was sent individually.

I'll do everyone a favor, grab my box from storage and post up the
letter for posterity.

I am trying the SATPC32 version 12.8c, but I have some problems that I
would like to comment on and hope for help.

1.- I have an interface provided for a few days for the FT-847, when
starting SATPC32 is put into CAT mode and puts the frequencies of the
selected satellite on the radio. When the satellite Doppler does not start
in the VFO's of the radio.

2.- I create a group of satellites or a list, to re-start SATPC32 that list
is no longer a priority, I have to re-open it in the foreground or view.

3.- I configured the Rotor G5500 with YAESU GS_232 interface, and the rotor
does not work, I revise Setup_Rotor and I see that interface change only,
it returns by default to the DDE interface.

All these problems may be related to using the test version ...? I need to
buy the license to solve this? Who guarantees that everything works well ..?

thanks for your help.

Hi Maciel,
1. the program updates both frequencies of the RADIO (only) whenever the
Doppler shift of the higher band changed by a certain amount of Hz or
more (= "interval", see menu CAT). For testing set the interval for SSB
to 10 and choose FO-29. The program will then update the radio
frequencies when the Doppler shift of the downlink (UHF) changed by 10
Hz or more. I use intervals of 50 Hz for SSB and 100 Hz for FM sats.
That are good practical values.

2. At program start the program will always use group "Standard" (FAQs
file sect. 5d). Therefore add your favourite sats to group "Standard".

3. Select Yaesu_GS-232 from the list of supported controllers in menu
"Rotor Setup". Then press the UPPER "Store" button and restart the
program. It should now start the interface program "ServerSDX" and the
symbol of "ServerSDX" should show up in the task line. Click on it to
show ServerSDX normally. In the ServerSDX setup window choose an
available COM port and the baudrate. Save the changes and restart
SatPC32 once again. To test rotor control open menu "Rotor" and click -
for example - the "Park" button.

This is maybe "off the list" but I guess many of us did know this person.

Today is a sad day for us.
John LA2QAA passed away November 25. and today we sayed goodbye for the last
time.
He was a real good friend, and a huge resource for us all here in the
nabourhood and local club.
The reason that I started working satellites are one and only John's "profit".
Rest in peace John.
