Hi!

In the past few hours, I saw a tweet from JA0CAW mentioning that the
ISS packet system was heard on 437.525 MHz, and there are some
packets captured on ariss.net from the JA0CAW-6 gateway earlier
today. Maybe the UHF radio was left on 437.525 MHz after the
scheduled ARISS contact yesterday, instead of being put back on
437.550 MHz.

Will the radio stay on 437.525 MHz for packet, or will it go back to
437.550 MHz? It's taken a little bit to get some gateway stations to
listen to 437.550 MHz instead of - or, maybe, in addition to - the
145.825 MHz frequency still used by NO-44 and NO-84. It's not hard to
deal with 437.525 MHz, either by changing the memories I've already
put in my HTs, or setting up a new group of 5 memory channels with
the frequencies 25 kHz lower.

73!

I expect this is a mistake on the astronaut?s part, or possibly an error in
the post-contact procedure. I?ll pass this on to the ARISS team in Houston.
They can get a message up to correct this. At the very least, it should be
resolved when the radio is turned on after the shutdown for the HTV docking
on Tuesday.

?Dave,

Thanks for the quick reply. I figured if packet was on 437.525
MHz, it was probably an oversight. I don't think there have
been many scheduled ARISS contacts using UHF, or specifically
using the Ericsson UHF HT.

When the ISS passes by this evening, barring any news that the
packet system was put back on 437.550 MHz today, I'll go with
two sets of memory channels for both frequencies. I'll listen
for activity on both, and hope to work anyone who shows up.

Or do as I do - make a folder and write a filter that pipes all amsat
related emails to a folder to be scanned and viewed at my pleasure.
They get deleted automatically as well.

Modifying your subscription can be done here:
http://www.amsat.org/mailman/listinfo/amsat-bb as is noted in the footer
of every mailer reflected email.

There is a finite amount of shared satellite downlink power available
for users of a linear transponder. When someone is operating CW and
fails to adjust their power appropriately, everyone suffers.

I made this recording today:

Glenn, AA5PK was operating portable from the USA/Mexico border in grid
square DL98. Using an Icom IC-910 and Arrow antenna, you could tell he
was perfectly readable yet in his voice you could detect very strong
CW elsewhere on the satellite passband.

Often there are portable stations running 5 watts with their Arrow
antennas. Please, please reduce your CW power. If you are operating CW
to overcome hearing deficiencies at your station, please consider
making station improvements rather than taking more of the
transponder's limited power for yourself.
