Thinking about adding the 1.2Ghz module for my 9100. Prices have dropped a
little and units will start become harder to find once production ends.
Anybody using this band? I read it's used as a uplink frequency for some
satellites. Any input appreciated.ToddAL7PX

Is there anyone down that way that could listen on a 2m frequency for a
errant IRLP type node causing QRM to FO-29?

We have several recordings, including CW IDs, but the owner of the call is
not cooperating so far. Here is a recording from tonight:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/shuci1f9qb7p56m/24dec16%200355%20FO29%20Winsystem%
20QRM.mp3?dl=0 The ID is very plain at about 10:50. About the time the
signal became unreadable, FO-29 was far enough south that only Florida was
left from the US in the footprint. The uplink/node frequency is about
145.990 or .995. The audio is very interesting.

Also looking for any OOs that would like to help.

Hi Todd,

Fox-1Cliff and Fox-1D will both have an L band (1.2 GHz) FM uplink in
addition to their UHF FM uplink. The operating mode will be selected by
the AMSAT Operations so each will default to U/v mode but can be
commanded to L/v for a 24 hour period.

I'm sure others here will fill you in on any other birds using 1.2 GHz.

Do you know something maybe the rest of us do not? Is the 9100 and the
accessories
for it about to be end of line?

Maybe that explains why my order for a 9100 here in Canada is still out of
stock
after 4 months.

If any of you in the U.S. are looking for a high stability crystal for your
iCom 910H, I just put one up for bid on eBay.
I was having issues where my frequencies would drift slightly after saving
them and inadvertently ordered 2 of the CR-293 modules.
It definitely did the job, it's rock solid now, but need to sell the second
one.

If you follow the link for the BY70-1 satellite, the page you land on
states that the uplink frequency has been changed to 145.920 MHz. Can
anyone on the list confirm one or the other uplink frequencies?

I'm back up here in the frozen north for the holidays and today had some
time to work on my G-5500's azimuth problem. I took my 5500 control box up
here with me from my station in Florida to help test. Now I've got it down
to the Azimuth rotor itself. I used to have a repair guide for this rotor,
but I haven't worked on one in many years and 2 moves ago and can't find it
anywhere including online. Does anyone have a copy they could email me? I
have the cable disconnected from the rotor control box. I'm interested in
taking some meter readings to try to determine what parts if any to order
from Yaesu. Thanks in advance.

I understand it is as the page says 145.920 MHz uplink and 436.200 MHz
downlink.
It seems the planned launch has been delayed due to weather.

What's not working? The gross troubleshooting is pretty simple.
Fixing? Not so easy.

Jeff,

The big question is, What is it doing or not doing ?

I had a similar problems with both the elevation and azimuth sections of
one of my G5500's. The problems occurred about 3 years apart. The
symptom was I could hear the motor but the rotor did not turn.

The cause was the setscrew that holds the "Bow Tie" cam to the motor
shaft in the brake came loose.

If this describes your problem, I suggest you check the set screw. If
not, keep it in mind for the future.

Thanks for all the info. I think I narrowed it down to a bad cable(or
connector at the rotor) between the control box and the rotor. From the info
gathered the rotor itself appears to not be the problem. I will get out
there tomorrow and do a quick cable check, and will know for sure.

Hi, all
Getting into sats and I've been poking around for software (windows). Seems
like most are using SATPC32, is that the go-to tracking program? Any others
that I should also consider?
How about logging software, any favorites for sats? I've been using DXLab,
(great for DX, not so much for sats.) Used to use LOGic, may try to
configure it for satellite logging. In any event, want to use whatever I end
up with just for sats and dump their logs into DXLab (hold complete station
logs).
Also, how about grid square chasing? I see paper (printed) grid maps for US,
abut anything for windows?? Found "WorkedGrids_v7, but seems to be for
terrestrial, not sats. Would like something that could show current
worked/confirmed grids other than on paper. Again. any ideas?
Thanks -- Lee

I created a database for my contacts. I make audio recordings of the
passes that I'm on and play them back later in order to enter the
details, including grid squares. I use that same database for
preparing my LOTW files.

Using a database makes it easy for me to check for a given station or
grid square that I might have worked before as I can search for
specific terms, such as callsigns.

If you have a database program, this might be worth considering as you
can set it up the way you want it and you don't have to buy another
software package.
