Thanks to all for the suggestions.

the /dev/ttyUSB0 and ttyUSB1 were in group dialout, so I did 'sudo groupadd
rolf dialout'
I then logged out of user 'rolf' and back in and Radio1 is working, but
Radio2 is not.
I don't see any difference in how they are configured.
I no longer get any error message about either of the COM ports when
opening SatPC32.
I did also try a full reboot of the OS with no change.

tnx, Rolf NR0T

I also have an interest in this project. Can you receive on your sdrplay
rsp2 while you're transmitting without any additional filters?

need to adjust manually RTL-SDR AGC to a minimum necessary gain. AO-85

Thanks for your suggestions.

The preamp is wide band, so the solution is to find a filter.

The 2m/70cm filter that I already have is the diplexer in the arrow
antenna. I'll retry my tests using that.

?Hi Phil!

I work satellites with an SDR receiver sitting alongside
my transmit radio (FT-817ND, or an HT or dual-band FM mobile
for FM satellites), and I don't have issues with receiving
while transmitting. I started with a FUNcube Dongle Pro+,
have used an SDRplay RSP1 for almost 2 years, and in recent
weeks started using an SDRplay RSP2. I use an Elk 2m/70cm
log periodic antenna, and there is a 2m/70cm diplexer between
the antenna and my radio setup (log periodic has only one
coax feedpoint). The diplexer is also serving as a bandpass
filter, adding some protection to the SDR receiver along with
the bandpass filters in these SDR receivers. I use an MFJ
MFJ-916B diplexer - inexpensive, and does at least as well as
the more expensive Comet and Diamond equivalents.

I have posted a bunch of RF recordings from different passes
worked with an SDR receiver for the downlinks. Most of these
are using an SDRplay RSP1, but you can get the large WAV
file and run it through an SDR program to see how things looked
and sounded from my end. These are in folders at:

http://dropbox.wd9ewk.net/

Look for folders with satellite names in them like AO-73, and
the WAV files all start with HDSDR in the file names within
those folders. Some of those folders will have other recordings,
when I was using something other than an SDR receiver for those
passes, or may have MP3 audio along with the large WAV files
which would have what I heard while working that pass.

73!

As I plan my semi-annual trek from Atlantic Canada to Deerfield, NH for
NEAR-Fest, I have been corresponding with a few hams who badly need FN55,
FN56, FN65, and FN66. I used to live in FN66 when I operated as VE1JH in NB
and remember it being quite popular back in the AO-27/UO-14 days.

Just for kicks, I took a look to see where those four grids intersect and,
lo, they all come together just steps from the side of a "Fire Road" that
branches off from Route 2A not too far south of Houlton, ME.

While the pass times don't work well for a Quad-Point expedition on my trip
later this week, I'm wondering if this 4-point has ever been activated in
the past. The terrain looks fairly clear, and not too hard to get to (if
you're already that part of Maine, of course).

If there is a bad need for that, and if I find I'm able to travel back that
way over the summer or fall this year, I may do a dedicated activation. I
think it would be fun. I may need bug repellent, though.

As well, I am still planning to activate FN87 in the very near future. This
grid is almost entirely over water, and only a thin sliver touches the
shore of Prince Edward Island. As small as the Island is, FN87 is still
close to a 2-hour drive from my place. I'm close to having multi-mode
receive through an SDRPlay-Android Tablet combination, and when I get that
working well I'll schedule the trip.

If anyone has a RX-only FT-817 that they would part with for fair $$$,
maybe I can arrange these travels a little sooner, hi hi.

Bob,

I've been using it to scope out new 4 corners that I haven't activated yet.
Unfortunately they aren't all as nice and open like the ones I've activated
so far in the desert areas. The corners of DM04,05,14,15 DM15,16,25,26 and
DM07,08,17,18 are all good spots and pretty easy to get to.

Off topic but if people visit corners they should also look for geocaches.
All three corners I've worked from had one. It seems we aren't the only ones
who find these places fun to go to.

I think I almost worked AA9FL(??), but since I didn't get/confirm your grid
square, it doesn't count :-) (And not sure of your call, since I wanted to
get familiar with this particular sat before I start recording.)

This was my* first* attempt at AO-85, and didn't hear myself until about 10
deg before LOS.

I also noticed I'm getting some desense when I transmit (using D72A into
Arrow antenna)

I might try the 2 May 0225Z pass, but that one is only 16 degrees from
EM85tm.

through April 1, 2017. There was no update on March 31st.
Congratulations to all those who made the list this month!

call was not mentioned. Thanks to all those who are
roving to grids that are rarely on the birds. They are
