AMSAT operators with D7XX radios or D72?s are needed in VA, VT, NY and NH.

We still have no volunteers for these mountain tops in 2 weeks for the 4
hour event:

* Mt Washington, New Hampshire

* Mt Equinox, Vermont

* Sam?s Point state park, New York (or Slide Mountain)

* Hawksbill, VA on BR parkway

*Subject:* Appalachian Trail Packet Event 15 July

On Saturday, 15 July we man-up 15 mountains for four hours from Maine to
Georgia for the Annual Golden Packet attempt.

We still need operators on 4 peaks above that are FULLY familiar with APRS
operation from their APRS radios for the 4 hour event. All you need is the
radio, power and a vertical OMNI antenna.

All of these are drive-up sites. For more info and all kinds of details,
see: http://aprs.org/at-golden-packet.html

This will be the 9th year to demonstrate cross-continent packet
text-messaging over 2000 miles and 14 hops using no-prior infrastructure.
This year we will operate at 9600 baud since last year it worked as well as
1200 but should allow double the message throughput.

After getting your paltry 100 points at Field Day. Get some respect, and
come have fun with packet radio!

OR start up your own LONG-LINEAR packet test anywhere else in the country.
Pacific Coast trail? Continental Divide Trail? Lewis&Clark Trail?

Russian Satellites Tanusha 1 and 2 set for Activation

Two Russian satellites are planned to be activated inside the International
Space Station (ISS) Russian Segment as part of a verification test from July
4-8. The satellites will eventually be deployed by hand from the ISS during
a Russian space walk tentatively scheduled for August 17, 2017. The
satellites Tanusha 1 and Tanusha 2, will be downlinked at 145.80 MHz.
Transmissions from Tanusha 1 should begin around 18:30 UTC on July 4.
Transmissions will cease on July 6 from 08:20 till 18:00 UTC to allow the
satellites to be swapped out. Tanusha 2 will then be activated beginning on
July 6 around 18:00 UTC and continue until July 8 at 10:30 UTC. The
satellites will broadcast greeting messages in Russian, English, Spanish and
Chinese. More details will be made available at https://www.swsu.ru/.

About ARISS

About ARISS:

Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) is a cooperative
venture of international amateur radio societies and the space agencies that
support the International Space Station (ISS). In the United States,
sponsors are the Radio Amateur Satellite Corporation (AMSAT), the American
Radio Relay League (ARRL), the Center for the Advancement of Science in
Space (CASIS) and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
The primary goal of ARISS is to promote exploration of science, technology,
engineering, and mathematics (STEM) topics by organizing scheduled contacts
via amateur radio between crew members aboard the ISS and students in
classrooms or informal education venues. With the help of experienced
amateur radio volunteers, ISS crews speak directly with large audiences in a
variety of public forums. Before and during these radio contacts, students,
teachers, parents, and communities learn about space, space technologies,
and amateur radio. For more informa

Next week (July 3-7) I will be on the air via satellites from DM66/67 on
wide-coverage SO-50, AO-85, and FO-29 passes. I am not planning any
specific passes and posting schedules but if I see a pass that covers North
America and fits well into my leisure schedule, I'll be on the birds. If
you want to make a schedule on a linear transponder, email me directly and
I will try to accommodate your request. If time allows I will operate from
DM77 which has been popular in the past.

I'll try to post on Twitter as @xxxxx when I am planning a pass in advance.

Hi folks,

AO73/FUNcube is now in amateur mode for the weekend with the transponder on!
Plan as usual is to revert to auto switching mode on Sunday PM.

Please see below for all FUNcube mission info

73s Jim G3WGM and the FUNcube team.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
FUNcube frequencies and other details
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

AO-73 FUNcube-1

The transponder is normally operational only when the satellite is in
eclipse, ie the solar panels are NOT being illuminated. During weekends
(from pm Fridays UTC to PM Sundays UTC) the transponder is operational 24/7.

When the transponder is switched off, the telemetry beacon is on full power,
when the transponder is on the beacon it is on low power. During holidays,
eg Christmas, New Year, Easter, etc, the transponder maybe activated for
extended periods. Watch AMSAT-BB for announcements which are usually made on
Friday evenings (UTC)

The nominal transponder frequencies are:

Uplink: 435.150 - 435.130 MHz LSB (Inverting)
Downlink: 145.950 - 145.970 MHz USB
Telemetry Tx: 145.935 MHz BPSK

(The passband may be up to 15kHz higher depending on on-board temps. Lower
temperatures give higher freqs!)

FUNcube-2 (aka FUNcube on UKube)

The FUNcube-2 sub-system continues to operate autonomously and, almost
continuously, in amateur mode. The transponder is operational and the
telemetry downlink is functioning with about 70mW output. The FUNcube-1
Dashboard does not correctly display the telemetry but it does correctly
decode the data and uploads it to the FUNcube Data Warehouse from where it
can be examined. Most of the real time data channels are operational and
these include battery voltages, temperatures and ADCS data coming via the
main On Board Computer (OBC).

The transponder is interrupted for a few seconds every 2 minutes when the
other transmitter sends its CW beacon and, occasionally, for a few seconds
when the main OBC reboots (approx seven times each orbit).

The nominal transponder frequencies are:
Uplink: 435.080 - 435.060 MHz LSB (Inverting)
Downlink: 145.930 - 145.950 MHz USB
Telemetry Tx: 145.915 MHz BPSK

(The passband may be up to 10kHz higher depending on on-board temps. Low
temperatures give higher freqs!)

EO79 FUNcube-3
Due to power budget constraints the transponder cannot be operational 24/7
and an orbit specific schedule has been developed. The transponder will
commence operation 27 minutes after the spacecraft enters sunlight and will
stay on for a period of 25 minutes. This schedule may be modified in future
months as a result of experience.

The nominal transponder frequencies are:
Uplink: 435.0723-435.0473 MHz LSB (Inverting)
Downlink: 145.946-145.971 MHz USB

Further detailed info on EO79 transponder frequencies is at:
https://amsat-uk.org/2016/11/10/eo79-funcube-3-transponder-commences-regular-o
peration/

EO88/Nayif-1/FUNcube-5

EO88 is presently operating in autonomous mode. The transponder is
operational when the satellite is in eclipse, ie the solar panels are NOT
being illuminated.
When the transponder is switched off, the telemetry beacon is on full power,
when the transponder is on the beacon it is on low power.
The transponder frequencies are:

Uplink: 435.045 ? 435.015 MHz LSB (inverting)
Downlink: 145.960-145.990 MHz USB
Telemetry Tx: 145.940MHz

All FUNcube transponders are sponsored by AMSAT-UK and AMSAT-NL. We are very
grateful for the assistance given by Innovative Solution In Space Bv, The
Netherlands.

Hello Satellite operators,

The 13 Colonies Special Event begins tomorrow morning at 9am EST (July 1st
1300UTC) and runs through July 6 at Midnight EST (July 7th 0400UTC)! This is
fun event where stations are on the air from each of the original 13
colonies, plus two bonus stations in Philadelphia, PA and Great Britain. It
is an incredibly exciting event to participate in. More information is on
the event website at http://www.13colonies.net/ <http://www.13colonies.net/>

I will be operating during the event as K2G from Georgia. I have found out
that valid QSOs for the event can be made through the amateur radio
satellites, so I am planning to put K2G on the air through SO-50 and
possibly AO-85! In the interest of time, I?ll only be looking for a signal
report, state, and grid square if you wish.

I have not figured out my entire operating schedule and it is not set in
stone, but I have listed below some of the passes that I will try to be on.

SO-50 Passes
01 Jul 2017 17:08Z
02 Jul 2017 17:33Z
04 Jul 2017 02:34Z
05 Jul 2017 15:29Z
06 Jul 2017 15:54Z

AO-85 Passes
02 Jul 2017 23:08Z
06 Jul 2017 21:29Z

I?ll be operating from EM73, which I know is somewhat rare. Unfortunately
the organizers for the state of Georgia have not uploaded the event logs to
LOTW in the past, although I may enquire about it this year. They are very
good at returning QSL cards for confirmation though! I will also be in EM73
periodically on the weekends for the next three months and I upload all my
personal contacts to LOTW, so you can get confirmation for EM73 that way if
you wish.

Good luck! I hope I can hear some of you this week during the event on the
HF bands and the FM satellites!

73,
Ruth

I've been using one for years on one of my Ubuntu workstations. With
FLDigi, it is plug and play. With FreeDV, I had to scan the USB ports
(trivial) to ID it. Take a look at your Linux command line instructions for
identification of what is plugged into which USB port. The FLDigi
workstation has been operating for years, it was originally a $10 yard sale
pc that the seller said "won't work or something" ... uh huh.

FYI, Fedora and Ubuntu are in the same family of Linux flavors.

Lee, yes that was the issue. Art based his design off my article in the May
June issue that year. My design took an old equatorial telescope mount I
wasn't using so I could line one axis with the orbital plane, eliminating
the Ned to try to track in both ax and elsewhere. Once set, you only have to
swing the mountain along one axis to follow the bird. Art simplified the
design (with my blessing) for use on a standard tripod.

Basically what he did was to fashion a post the screws onto the standard
bolt and the have a tee joint th a fits on to the bolt and allows the
antenna to rotate around the bolt.

When you set it up. You tilt the pan head so the antenna at it's highest
point is at the max elevation of the pass. The prostate the pan head so the
max elevation point you just set is lined up with the azimuth of max
elevation. IIRC, he made it so you could still rotate the antenna to
compensate for polarity. He has a nice picture of it on his QRZ page.

Feel free to contact me off list if you can't find either issue.

Well the question begs to be asked. Are there stations in ALL 13 colony
states that will be OTA? If so, I will as usual cover NJ and DE. So we have
GA, NJ, and DE signed up so far. Anyone from MD, MA, RI, CT, NH, NY, PA, VA,
NC, SC, want to sign up? Or did I miss something?

Stations from all 13 colonies will be on HF. Hams who wanted to operate for
their state emailed Ken KU2US or their state manager to sign up. Most
operations for this special event take place on HF as far as I can tell.
Since I am signed up to be an operator for Georgia, I figured I'd try doing
it on satellites as well as HF for the fun of it, and posted it here so
regular satellite ops wouldn't be surprised when I show up on SO-50 and
possibly AO-85.

states that will be OTA? If so, I will as usual cover NJ and DE. So we have
GA, NJ, and DE signed up so far. Anyone from MD, MA, RI, CT, NH, NY, PA, VA,
NC, SC, want to sign up? Or did I miss something?

fun event where stations are on the air from each of the original 13
colonies, plus two bonus stations in Philadelphia, PA and Great Britain. It
is an incredibly exciting event to participate in. More information is on
the event website at http://www.13colonies.net/ <http://www.13colonies.net/>

that valid QSOs for the event can be made through the amateur radio
satellites, so I am planning to put K2G on the air through SO-50 and
possibly AO-85! In the interest of time, I?ll only be looking for a signal
report, state, and grid square if you wish.

the organizers for the state of Georgia have not uploaded the event logs to
LOTW in the past, although I may enquire about it this year. They are very
good at returning QSL cards for confirmation though! I will also be in EM73
periodically on the weekends for the next three months and I upload all my
personal contacts to LOTW, so you can get confirmation for EM73 that way if
you wish.
