at 1800 UTC Saturday, January 21 and concluding at 0559 UTC on Sunday,
January 22. For North American stations, the exchange is your name and
station location (state, province, or country, while non-North American
stations use only their name. This event runs concurrently with the

Winter Field Day <https://www.winterfieldday.com/> website.

==> BULLETINS

The World Radiosport Team Championship (WRTC) Sanctioning Committee
announced that it's accepting proposals for hosts of the 2026 event.
WRTC is an on-site amateur radio competition, usually held every 4
years. The 2022 event was delayed due to the worldwide public health
challenges and government responses to the COVID-19 pandemic, and is
now scheduled to be held in Bologna, Italy in July 2023.

Groups interested in hosting WRTC 2026 should submit a letter of intent
with a summary proposal. This should include the following items:

- Committee organization, identifying each of the principals involved
and any relevant organizational and amateur radio experience,
especially in contesting/radiosport
- Competition description, including planned number of teams,
geographic location of operating sites, and competitor selection
process
- Social aspects, including approximate schedule, travel, and housing
arrangements for participants.
- Financing, including an outline of the budget and fundraising
approach. A detailed budget is not required at this time.
- Expected assistance and involvement from local and regional amateur
radio organizations and regulatory authorities
- Public exposure, including plans to publicize and promote the event
locally and worldwide.

Letters of Intent must be submitted no later than March 31, 2023 at
2359 UTC. The WRTC-Sanctioning Committee will review all proposals
received and respond by April 30, 2023. Additional information may be
requested. Letters of Intent should be submitted directly to the WRTC
Sanctioning Committee Chairman, Tine Brajnik, S50A, via email to
tine.brajnik@gmail.com.

==> TECHNICAL TOPICS AND DISCUSSION

Blocking Radio Waves and Electromagnetic Interference with the Flip of
a Switch

Researchers at the Drexel University College of Engineering have
developed a thin film device, fabricated by spray coating, that can
block electromagnetic radiation with the flip of a switch. The
breakthrough, enabled by versatile two-dimensional materials called
MXenes, could adjust the performance of electronic devices, strengthen
wireless connections and secure mobile communications against
intrusion.

You can read the full article in the Drexel News
<https://drexel.edu/news/archive/2023/January/MXene-dynamic-EMI-shielding-switch?utm_source=join1440&utm_medium=email&utm_placement=newsletter>.

Viewing Reverse Beacon Network FT4 and FT8 Spots

Pete Smith, N4ZR, notes that the Reverse Beacon Network
<https://reversebeacon.net/> (RBN) also carries FT4 and FT8 spots, but
not on the regular feed or website. Clusters wishing to have access to
these spots are invited to connect via Telnet to
telnet.reversebeacon.net port 7002. If you would like to see what that
feed looks like, feel free to connect with PuTTY or another Telnet app,
and see for your self.

An article on the RBN website,
https://reversebeacon.net/pages/CW+and+FT4%2F8+on+a+single+Red+Pit+45,
explains how the RBN handles these spots, and has a partial list of DX
clusters that carry the RBN's FT4 and FT8 spots.

That's all for this time. Special thanks to Brian, N9ADG, for filling
in for me these past few months. Remember to send contesting-related
stories, book reviews, tips, techniques, press releases, errata,
schematics, club information, pictures, stories, blog links, and
predictions to contest-update@arrl.org.
