ITALY: 40 MHZ ---> Once again Italian radio amateurs have been authorized to
use the 40 MHz band until the end of the year. They are allowed to operate
from 40.660 MHz to 40.700 MHz with a maximum power of 10 watts. The Italian
regulator has given permission until 31 December also for 70.100 MHz, 70.200
MHz, 70.300 MHz, and 1810-1830 KHz.
KH7AL/KH9 ---> Allen, KH7AL has returned to Wake Island and is active again
as KH7AL/KH9. His next scheduled activities, which are announced regularly
on https://kh7al.site/kh9-upcoming-activity/, are:
27 April 07:00-09:00 UTC, 20m SSB
08 May 07:00-09:00 UTC, 30m CW
11 May 19:30-23:00 UTC, 12m SSB
NCDXF: YOUTH GRANTS ---> In May 2023, the Northern California DX Foundation
"announced youth grants to DXpeditions that had young operators under the
age of 26. Up to now, travel expenses for numerous young individuals partic-
ipating in DXpeditions have been reimbursed.
At our annual meeting in Visalia, we are changing this grant to cover the
entire share of an operator on any major DXpedition instead of just the
travel costs. For example, if a DXpedition charges each operator $5000 to
participate, then it would get $5000 from NCDXF for up to three young
DXpeditioners. This is meant to encourage DXpeditions to take along these
up-and-coming DXers and encourage young people to go regardless of the fi-
nancial cost.
This youth grant application will be part of the application process going
forward. We will need name, call and some background to support their in-
volvement".
The mission of NCDXF is to provide necessary financial support for well-
organized DXpeditions to desirable DXCC entities and to support advances in
DXpeditioning skills, technology, and infrastructure: https://www.ncdxf.org.
OPERATIONS MANNA & CHOWHOUND COMMEMORATION ---> Operation Manna and Opera-
tion Chowhound were a series of humanitarian food drops to feed Dutch civil-
ians at risk of starvation during the final days of the Second World War in
Europe. Commemorating the 80th anniversary, ten special event stations will
be active on 25-27 April from England (GB80CHO, GB80MAN and GB8MAN), the
Netherlands (PH80MAN), Poland (SN80MAN), Canada (VB6MAN, VB7MAN and VE1MAN),
Australia (VK80MAN) and the US (W4C). A certificate will be available, see
https://manna80.radio/ for more information
ZS8W ---> Yuris, YL2GM and all personnel are still on board the S.A. Agulhas
II. "I had a quick chat on the phone with Yuris earlier today", MM0NDX (DX
World) reported on 24 April. "The seas haven't been great recently and con-
tinue to be lumpy so no landing just yet. Said he'd update on when he's
likely to go on land, possibly Saturday". The ZS8W website is currently
"under maintenance" (https://lral.lv/zs8w/).
