1A0KM PIRATE ACTIVITIES. Sergio, IK0FTA, QSL Manager of 1A0KM (S.M.O.M),
reports to all DX hams/community that all activities from the station
1A0KM are published in advance and are available on their QRZ.com page
as well as in the major DX bulletins. Recently some stations have been
PIRATING the 1A0KM callsign and have made a dozen QSOs. Sergio states,
[edited] "Please don't waste your time trying to work pirates and - over
all - save your money and don't waste your time in sending QSL cards if
the activity hasn't been published before hand on our QRZ.com page; I'm
very sad to reply to many of you: 'sorry it was a pirate' ... so if you
don't see our "publicly announcement" of activities on our QRZ.com page,
consider those transmissions were made by pirates."

2016 ASIA PACIFIC DX CONVENTION (APDXC Press Release). Hello, Fellow
DX-ers and Contesters! -- We are pleased to announce that the quasi-
biennial Asia Pacific DX Convention (APDXC) will be held this year on
November 11-13 in Osaka, Japan.
As previous attendees know, in addition to the usual presentations on
recent DX-peditions, technical sessions, DX dinners and so forth, we will
also have the opportunity to join a tour at the Icom factory and partic-
ipate in a technical session led by the Icom HF radio design team.
And don't forget, APDXC is the only amateur radio event in Japan where
all the programs are conducted in English! =

During the hours of the Icom factory tour, the non-ham members of your
party will have the opportunity for a day of guided sightseeing and
exploring in the Osaka-Kyoto-Nara area.
We look forward to seeing you at the APDXC 2016, and we appreciate
your introducing this convention to your DX/contest club members. For
more details, please visit the APDXC website at: http://www.apdxc.org

70TH ANNIVERSARY RETRO-DXPEDITION TO MADEIRA ISLANDS, CT3BH [edited].
-- QRV May 20-23rd, 2016 -- GOING BACK TO THE YEARS OF THE PAST WHEN
IT WAS ALL DIFFERENT, BY OH2BH -- While searching for those rare young
DXing souls, Martti, OH2BH has decided to bring back and treasure those
great people and locations that once introduced him to joy, provided
learning, and urged him to look at the world from a missionary DXing
perspective. Rare and distant locations always affect visiting DXers,
compelling them to view this wonderful world and its differences in a
new way. Rare and new countries are typically rare for a reason.
                       http://www.qrz.com/db/OH2BH
Martti=92s 2016 anniversary journey will take him to many of those original
locations, allowing you to refresh your memories at the other end of the
radio circuit. The ensuing year may even bring something new: DXing re-born
every morning as the Palos Verdes Sun Dancers commence their rituals of
bringing back radio propagation to those who Deserve. The Deserving is
here spelled with a capital D.
So, join the bandwagon in Madeira! Use the password =93QBH70=94 to put the
pileup on hold and share one of your memories right on the spot. At the
ripe age of 70 or more it is wonderful to have those ancient years return
just like yesterday. This mode of DXing is called RETRO DXpeditioning.

BH-SH AWARD (Back Home - Sweet Home) -- After CT3BH, there will be more.
Dotting the world is the greatest pastime of DXers, even though returning
to one=92s sweet home tends to beat such dotting. Qualifying for the BH-SH
award is a 14-dot mission: each country with OH2BH operating alone and/or
as part of a group during 2016 gives you 1 point, whereas working Martti
at his home gives you 5 points =96 you need 10 countries to qualify. Good
luck in your hunt for the BH-SH award! Activities so far in 2016 include
CU2KG/CR2X, Z68BH/Z60A, and ZA/OH2BH. =96 de OH2BH

CQ DX and Contest and DX Halls of Fame

The CQ DX and Contest Halls of Fame honor those amateurs who not only
excel in personal performance in these major areas of amateur radio but
who also "give back" to the hobby in outstanding ways.

For only the second time in its history, this year, we induct a non-amate=
ur
  - in fact, a group of non-amateurs - to the CQ DX Hall of Fame (The first
was Islands on the Air founder Geoff Watts in 1977). The 2016 inductees
  are:

Nigel Jolly and the Crew of the RV Braveheart - Jolly and his crew (and
ship) have provided transportation for - and assured the
safety of - many of the major DXpeditions to southern islands
in the past 15 years, DXpeditions that likely would not
              otherwise have taken place.

Roger Balister, G3KMA - As manager of the Islands on the Air program
since 1985, Roger has seen IOTA grow from a few hundred early
participants to more than 10,000 today, making it one of the
most popular award programs in amateur radio.

The 2016 inductees to the CQ Contest Hall of Fame are:

Tod Olson, K0TO - Tod is the founding editor of the National Contest
Journal and has served the general amateur radio community
as an ARRL Section Manager, Vice Director, Division Director
              and International Affairs Vice President
 =

Richard Strand, KL7RA (SK) - A radio astronomer taking advantage of the
quiet of the northern latitudes for his research, Rich Strand
built and maintained highly competitive contest stations in
a very difficult environment and was, for many hams, their
first (or only) CQ Zone 1 contact.

Formal inductions to the CQ Contest and DX Halls of Fame were conducted
in conjunction with the Dayton Hamvention=AE in May. Contest Hall of Fame
presentations were made at the Dayton Contest Dinner by CQ World Wide DX
Contest Director Randy Thompson, K5ZD; DX Hall of Fame inductions were
conducted at the Dayton DX Dinner on our behalf by noted DXers and CQ DX
Hall of Fame members Bob Allphin, K4UEE, and Ralph Fedor, K0IR.
 =

Our thanks to all and congratulations to the inductees!

PERSEVERANCE DX GROUP [PDXG - <pdxg.net>] 2016 (Press Release #1, Dated
May 18th). [edited] -- PDXG Donates Lenovo Laptop to Bill Moore NC1L:
As you may recall, after a life altering automobile accident in July,
2014, Bill Moore, NC1L, stepped down as the ARRL Awards Manager.
Recently we learned that Bill was in need of a laptop computer. His
current Windows laptop is quite old and very much out of date. He is
using an iPhone and iPad but a Windows 10 laptop will be of great help
in his recovery. Bill cannot use his fingers except in a very limited
way and he has no strength. We hope this current technology lap-
top will be the foundation for development of an interface that allows
Bill to use the Remote Ham Radio site with push buttons rather than mouse
actions.
This particular laptop was used on the TX3X Chesterfield Island DX-
pedition. The machine was refurbished by PDXG, loaded with Windows 10
and presented to Bill by Les Kalmus, W2LK. =

PDXG is extremely happy to have been able to help Bill on his long
road to recovery. =

T31, CENTRAL KIRIBATI (Press Release #2, Dated May 16, 2016). [edited]
  Central Kiribati T31W (Kanton Island) - 2017 DX-pedition <T31W.com>
The Perseverance DX Group <pdxg.net> commenced planning next year=92s DX-
pedition to Central Kiribati (Kanton Island) T31. The callsign T31W was
issued for team use. Exact dates have not been selected, plan October,
2017. =

The expedition yacht Evohe from Dunedin, New Zealand, will provide
transportation and logistical support to the project. We expect to meet
the team in Apia, Samoa, for the estimated 4 day sail to Kanton Island.
  Planning to participate are:
Arnie/N6HC, Kevin/K6TD, Heye/DJ9RR, Pista/HA5AO, Laci/HA0NAR, Gene/K5GS,
Les/W2LK, Glenn/KE4KY, Mike/WA6O, Ricardo/PY2PT and Steve/W1SRD.
We are working with the authorities regarding the landing permit for-
malities and will soon submit the required documentation and fees.
Watch the usual DX sources for information. We will announce addi-
tional details as they develop.
At this time T31 is overall #19 most wanted on Clublog. However, the
need in EU is significant for CW/SSB/RTTY. Getting a team to T31 requires
a safe boat and qualified skipper / crew, this DX-pedition will not be
inexpensive, fundraising activities will soon begin. =
