North Dublin Radio Club Celebrating 50 Years

This year the North Dublin Radio Club is celebrating its 50th anniversary. As part of their celebrations, they would like to invite their many past members to the Christmas party to make it a special one to remember. While arrangements are not yet finalised, they would like to get a rough idea of numbers in advance. Traditionally, their party is held during the week preceding Christmas. If you'd like to come along and celebrate with them, please contact Tony EI6K on 086 298 5776 to express your provisional interest.
Radio Scouting Ireland - EI0RSI - Jamboree on the Air 2023

Radio Scouting Ireland announce that JOTA-JOTI 2023 will take place over the weekend of the 20th to the 22nd of October. JOTA-JOTI is a fantastic annual event in the world scouting calendar where scouts from all over the world connect with each other using amateur radio. It has been in place since 1957. This year, there is huge interest from scouting groups and radio operators across Ireland.

Over the weekend, more than 400 Irish scouts are expected to take part in the event. Many of these scouts will have their first introduction to amateur radio and make their first QSO. Hopefully, some will be bitten by the bug and become licensed radio operators in the future. There will be eight EI stations on air supported by clubs around the country. Please listen for them, on all bands, and local repeaters. All QSOs and reports are welcome. Thanks to all the radio clubs and operators that will be assisting over the weekend.
Collective Communication Update

Collective Communication has been asked to support this year's Jamboree on the Air next weekend and are more than happy to do so. EI3CC will be at Ballyscanlon Lake just outside Tramore, Co. Waterford for the full weekend of 21st and 22nd October with their radio communications unit and caravan. Following last year's very successful JOTA where over 60 scouts attended, they have been told to expect even more this year. Last year's JOTA was a little damp, so they are hoping for better weather this time.
Mid Ulster Amateur Radio Club's SOTA Event

On Saturday October 7th, the Mid Ulster Amateur Radio Club held a Summit on the Air (SOTA) and QRP event on Carrigatuke Mountain. It is 365m above sea level in Co. Armagh. This event was co-hosted by Jamie 2I0JVX and Ian GI0AZB who offered his advice on years of experience to all attending on SOTA and QRP operation. VHF/UHF and HF were all employed during the day with great results. The club hopes to host similar events in the future and details will appear on their Facebook page and through their normal club channels. Everyone is welcome to attend. The club may be contacted directly via email to muarc.secretary /at/ muarc.yahoo.co.uk.
Tipperary Amateur Radio Group Meeting

September's Edition of the IARU Monitoring System Newsletter

As you may be aware, the IRTS is the member society of the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU). The September edition of the IARU Region 1 Monitoring System newsletter has been published. In this, they announce changes to region 1 national coordinators before moving on to an update about recent interference that was affecting spectrum segments typically used for FT8 and FT4 digital modes. Several reports of interfering and intruder signals of military and other related origin were noted again.

The newsletter also reports on a large range of unusual signals in the 10m band that have been relatively easy to spot due to the good propagation over the past few weeks and months. The newsletter and further information about the IARU Region 1 activities may be found at www.iaru-r1.org
