Just a hunch, maybe the keymap or codepage/environment locale/language is messed up for the plugged
in keyboard and some of the characters of your password are not on the same keys as you are used to.
Its only a hunch, but if you have any chars such as or # in your password they may be being sent
as € and £ respectively. Let us know if that helps!
It would explain why it works over SSH from another keyboard. To a degree.
