Hi ALL,

I was on the HF bands yesterday having a tune about and came accross a
newly licenced ham.

He was only 15 and was calling CQ for what seemed like forever.
I went back to his call & we chatted a while, We held a qso for about an
hour having a good rag chew.

He told me that he had been saving for ages to get his HF radio a TS2000,
The same as me when I was newly licenced. A fantastic all in one package
from DC to Light.

While we were talking he told me something quite disturbing, that he does
not go onto the HF bands that often. and that he likes 2m better.
When I asked why he said because people ignore him on the HF bands and
never seems to get many QSO's.

This is now the second instance "That I know of" where a new ham is being
ignored on the bands, Maybe because their 1)New or 2)Young.

I have had so many doors opened to me bacause ofHam Radio - Jobs, Friends
etc.

I would like to think that ALL hams would be inviting to young or new
people into the hobby as its a fairly hard hobby to get kids into these
days and drag them away from the internet and their mobile phone.

Just something to think about the next time you hear a young voice on the
bands.
