Hello friends

There is one correction to the Shortwave Radiogram schedule to announce: The WINB DRM transmission is Friday at 1500-1530 UTC. And its frequency is 15755 kHz, up five kilohertz from the 15750 kHz WINB had been using the past few years. The WINB signal consists of five kilohertz of DRM voice content, and five kilohertz of unspecified data, if indeed any data is actually transmitted. Last week the voice segment was in the lower five kilohertz. Reception and decoding of the transmission are usually difficult. Most listener use remote KiwiSDRs in conjunction with the Dream software. The KiwiSDR should be set to IQ mode. Receivers in the southwest and southeast USA have the best chance of adequate reception, although sometimes European receivers have success.

Last week, listeners reported some problems with reception of the Monday 0800-0830 UTC broadcast. I blissfully slept through it: For the first time in several months I fell back to sleep after the alarm beeped at 0715 UTC (2:15 am EST here).

A video of last weekend's Shortwave Radiogram (program 278) is provided by Scott in Ontario (Friday 1300 UTC). The audio archive is maintained by Mark in the UK. Analysis is prepared by Roger in Germany.

The first news item in this weekend's show, about the Swedish wooden dolls that sing in harmony, ends with an MFSK32 image of the wooden dolls, followed by a few seconds of the sound of their singing.

Here is the lineup for Shortwave Radiogram, program 279, 18-22 November 2022, in MFSK modes as noted:

 1:33 MFSK32: Program preview
2:37 MFSK32: Wooden dolls that sing in harmony*
8:04 MFSK64: Why go back to the Moon?
11:44 MFSK64: This week's images*
27:14 MFSK32: Closing announcements
