It runs fine on a Pi 3. There is a critical bug in kernels above 4.1 in
which they will just freeze the ax25 stack. The fix is to downgrade your
system to a lower kernel than 4.4.
There's several Pi 3s running URONode/axMail just fine.
Your 3.x series kernel is probably the better platform but I don't know
if it's available for the Pi 3.
If you're not on the URONode support list you may want to do such.
