Correct, which is what I stated to VE7ASS.

Now this is not always true as we learned earlier this year with JNOS which
is why having the actual BID in the R: line important.

When I0OJJ was trying to send me mail, he did so without sending a bid, even
if HIS system was the originating station. JNOS' bid = NULL when it was
presenting the mail yet DID exist in the R: line which then made it
easier to help debug (and for me to provide a patch). Not providing a bid in
the R: line would have made it that much more difficult if not almost
impossible to verify his message # being the originating station matched
the true bid... this is why it's important to maintain a bid in the R: line.
Had his JNOS failed to maintain the bid number I wouldn't be able to follow
a proper line of integrity as far as the message itself is concerned.
Do we not care about integrity on the bbs network anymore?

places the beer on the other side of the scale.
