The number in the R Line that appears to be the Bid number is not actually that...it is the
message number in that stations mailbox..  When the station is the one originating the 
mesage, of course they will be the same,  But when forwarding a message originated by 
someone else, the number shown will be the number of the message in thr forwarding  
stations mailbox and will be different from the Bid #.

Understand... of course this is the case -- thanks for making that clear. I was indeed 
looking at the earliest R-line which would have contained the sender's bid.

Yes I'm interested in the integrity of the forwarding system... that's how this thread
got started. And yes it would be great if every system complied with a standard way
of expressing the R line.  Unlikely as the 30 year battle over NOAM vs NA still rages
on.
