Now that the Xmas season is over, you may have or find LED Xmas light strings being tossed. I've used such LEDs to replace small incandescent bulbs in old rigs like a Yeasu FT227. This rig had incandescent bulbs behind colored plastic indicators on its front panel. Just match the colors, LEDs and plastic indicator colors. With modern LEDs use a series resistor around 10K to 33K off 12VDC, the LEDs will be plenty bright. Only thing you have to do is get the polarity correct (incandescents didn't care).

I've also used white LEDs to replace incandescents to light up meters in radios too. Your choice warm white or cool white.
