I don't know about wether the brand made a difference. Some radios if
I recall were rated for instance to do full duty rtty where some
had to be turned down so the finals did not overheat. There were
probably some mods such as more heatsink and more fans to cool the
finals off for some radios. I do recall that in most manuals I have
read that when operating in AM the power had to be turned down. I've
only been a ham for 11 years but have been interested since the 70's
and have read a lot before I finally got a chance to enjoy the hobby.
Question: Aren't most digital modes like WSPR, FT8 PSK Low power modes?
What's truly amazing is how with some aided computational power we are
able to snatch signals that are so weak by lowering the amount of
spectrum we are looking at and therefore increasing signal to noise!
