Good point! Unfortunately, the club bosses do not use (yet) FT8 or
similar. They know very well of FT8 but they also probably know if they
worked FT8 in that case they would lose any argument (read: false
evidence) that digital operations "crew up" HF radios. Unfortunately,
until someone starts operating FT8 in the club I could barely survive
the 'speech of hate' against pactor, packet, robust, ...

Sure. Even when I operate FT-1000 I restrict its output not more than
30-50W, and it is cold after few hours of operation.

I suppose so. However it is hard to explain that to the people who think
that only CW (even very fast) is 'safe for radios' HI HI.

Actually, I realized that FT-857 does have a 'hidden' fan inside (and
another ham disassembled his FT-857 and discovered, to his surprise,
even two small fans inside). So in my view, an occasional
manually-started BBS operation(s) cannot 'break' FT-857 that easily ...
at 25W output etc ...

Will try to check it ... it does sound 'click' with change-over but do
not know if there are relays or pin diodes.

But it looks to me that the obvious 'fear of unknowns' that is visible
in the club trustees, is stronger than the reality of safe operation at
small power and so on ... HI ... regardless pin diodes or relays ...
