Interesting article, John. In my case, the laptop is *not* connected
directly to a rig (FT-847, or FT-857, or any other I find available in
the club's radio room, HI), but rather via some data controller (such as
SCS Dragon) or via an external sound-card interface (such as RIGblaster
Advantage). Both of those go to the laptop's USB ports.

Up to now I did not realize much of RFI issues (if any), and hope
nothing shall/will be zapped. However, as I sometimes have to power the
mentioned data controller by using a Chinese 220VAC/12VDC wall charger
(and that means not using the same 30amp PSU I use for supplying the
rig) there might be some parasitic currents flowing around. However not
big deals there yet.

Next to it is the controller/sound iface connection to the same 8-pin
microphone connector at FT-847/FT-1000MP front panel. I just made a
simple "Y" adapter to bring two 8-pin mic plugs into one 8-pin socket.
All works without complaints, however some folks think that some
isolation would not harm there too. Any idea?
