Hello Lugi
I agree with you with regards SP Mail. The basic issue is the
the number of PMS BBS systems are miss configured and not using
the fully declared Hierarchical Address (HA)
Congratulations Lugi on being involved in Packet Radio from the
early days.
There is no need to maintain a separate swapp.sys file
as the WhitePage database should handle the lookup
if the BBS SysOp and Users correctly configure their software
and user 'stop' connecting to multiple BBS and not changing
their home BBS on the DX BBS they are visting
I have provided details that I have documented on my server
at gb7cip.
Yes I am aware the WhitePage database can be messed up
with duff data being sent out by misconfigured systems
BUT this has been in use for decades.
Hierarchical Address (HA)
Applies to ALL Amateur Radio PMS and BBS systems World Wide
All forwarding and routing is based on H Hierarchical address
selection.
Please ensure that YOUR SYSTEM meets this Standard.
Please ensure that you use the correct fully qualified Hierarchical
Address of your Home BBS in your PMS Client From field and a fully
qualified Hierarchical Address for the Destination BBS system at
which the USER resides.
There is no excuse for SP Personal Mail not to reach it.s destination
BBS. (if the BBS is active and alive). All it just needs SysOP
liaising with major continent gateways within each HA
@County State.Country.Continent
@Region.Country.Continent
e.g. in one of the following formats
SP YOURCALLSIGN@HOMEBBSCALL.Region.Country.Continent
SP YOURCALLSIGN@HOMEBBSCALL.County.State.Country.Continent
The White Page (WP) Datebase at our local BBS GB7CIP will be updated
and propegated to other 30+ BBS's including BBS Gateways in Asia,
Europe, Oceania, Africa, South and North America hosting a
WP Database automatically.
That will allow our BBS systems to correctly forward your SP Mail to
it's destination anywhere in the 'World'.
And that you only use ONE HOME BBS. Or if you log to another BBS
remember to SET YOUR HOME BBS with it's correct HA on the Visited
Server.
Otherwise your action will cause your SP Mail to be misrouted (lost in
a big black hole).

So, attending the packet radio world for more than 30 years I can externalise some of my perplexities.
Oh, sorry if I dare, they called me "MASTER" ... Well, I taught CW and PACKET RADIO.
Today I do not feel like showing off with some "medals" on my chest.
But then it is the FWD of the SP: personal messages.
I do not know about you, but I have found that they do not run properly.
We do not always blame the performers / users of these messages to justify us.
More than doing SP I3XTY @ I3XTY and crtl-z do not after writing the text.
So they are the BBS or systems with the sysop not very careful not to send the PERSONAL MSG to the destination, ie with the cmd: SP callsign @ homebbs.
Pretending that the WPs do the miracle is not a sysop prepared.
Many years ago I had made a file with a name that horrifies those who do not know how to use it, which is this and that is SWAPP.SYS, it was like a telephone directory.
I had collected all the data of the then USERS Italians ... Really long.
Well, establish who the HOMEBBS of each of my USERS was. (I'm bbs since 1985 so I had too much traffic at that time).
They did not lose an SP callsign msg. Apart from that I immediately enabled them as BBS for which they automatically collected or transferred their msg. (The packet is an AUTOMATIC system).
Then there was the death of users, thanks to the internet, and so lost even the big and big file of personal data.
Today, it should be redone at least for the few remaining. The few survivors.
