VI6ANZAC

Date : 02 / 11 / 2014

Author : Bob Bristow - VK6POP

To mark the 100th anniversary of the departure of the first convoy of ships
carrying ANZAC troops and the significant role Albany has played in Australia’s
ANZAC history, a number of commemorative events will be taking place in
Albany from the 31 October to 2 November 2014.

Albany was the assembly point for many ships setting sail for Gallipoli and
the Western Front.
Albany was the last place that many saw Australian soil.

Southern Electronics Group (SEG) has been granted permission to use a special
event call sign VI6ANZAC over the weekend of the Albany commemorative events,
which includes the opening of the National ANZAC Centre on Mt Adelaide,
a symbolic re-enactment of the 1914 departure of the ship convoy from Albany
for World War I and a troop march through Albany’s main street.

SEG will be the first club in WA and the second club in Australia to be
granted use of an ANZAC Centenary Special Event call sign. SEG will be
restricted using the call sign to one 24 hour period over the weekend,
so all members will come together to maximise use of it on
Saturday 1 November 2014.

No matter what transpires, this is a great "once in a lifetime" opportunity!

The special event call sign and QSL Card will be highly sought after by
VK amateurs and overseas amateurs alike as use of the ANZAC call sign suffix
is being highly regulated by WIA, ACMA and Department of Veteran Affairs.

VI6ANZAC will be active on all HF bands 160M - 10M, including the WARC bands.
Digital modes will also be operating throughout the period.

Information will be updated on the QRZ page for VI6ANZAC in the lead up to
the event and on the day (Saturday 1st November 2014) Link

73’s from the Southern Electronics Group (VK6SR) in Albany.
