Nepal shakes while recovery continues

Date : 17 / 05 / 2015

Author : Jim Linton - VK3PC

Fear is still held following further tremors in the land-locked nation
of Nepal that a third earthquake may occur, although shocks have been
below 4.6 in magnitude.
The initial earthquake on April 25, the worst in that country for more
than 80 years, killed than 8,000 people, injured thousands and
destroyed many buildings.

It was followed less than three weeks later with another earthquake,
more deaths and heartbreak.
Satish 9N1AA reports that following more tremors things seems are
settling down.
He reports today of four tremors were all above 4 in intensity, but not
as terrifying, though their epicentre was in the Dolkha District,
about 45 km east of his location at Kathmandu.
"I hope there would not be any bigger than 6 strength in coming days.
Though situation in city area is reasonable, it is extremely bad in villages.
Some 90 per cent of the rural houses are fully destroyed.
Monsoon will start after 3 weeks," he said.

International and local groups engaged in rescue and aid activities are
most still in place.
Satish 9N1AA said: "All major roads to Kathmandu Valley are shaken by tremors
and minor dry land slides are seen in various points in these roads.
"Geo experts are claiming once rain begins, parts of these roads will
swept and Kathmandu could be cut-off from road connection for weeks."
