WIA makes its submission to Australian Government Spectrum Review

Date : 01 / 09 / 2014

Author : Phil Wait - VK2ASD

The WIA has made a submission to the Department of Communications review into
the Australian spectrum policy and management framework.
The Department states the review is necessary to "modernise spectrum policy
to reflect changes in technology, markets and consumer preferences that
have occurred over the last decade and to better deal with increasing
demand for spectrum from all sectors".

The WIA submission highlights the public-benefit aspects of the amateur
service and identifies key areas where amateur radio can provide further
substantial community value. Additionally, the WIA submission argues for
a clear delineation between policy development and policy implementation,
strong community input into future spectrum policy development,
and increased resources for the ACMA in relation to
interference management and enforcement.

The Spectrum Review discussion paper, along with stakeholder submissions,
can be downloaded from this Link and the WIA submission can be viewed
by clicking the file below.

The WIA has also forwarded a discussion document to the ACMA regarding
the proposed remake of the Amateur Licence Conditions Determination
(the LCD). Amateur radio licence conditions, such as modes and power etc.,
are not within the scope of the Spectrum Review.
Please see the news release on the Amateur LCD remake for more
information on those issues.
